Finnish bread.
2 c. scalded milk 1/4 c. butter, cool til lukewarm. 2 eggs, beaten 2 cakes of yeast 1/3 c. water | 6 c. flour 1 c. sugar 2 tsp. salt 15 cardamon seeds, crushed (1 tsp.) 1 lb. mixed glazed fruits |
Disolve 2 cakes of yeast in 1/3 c. water. Add two beaten eggs and yeast to milk and butter mixture. Add dry ingredients. Let rise in large bowl covered with damp cloth overnight.(will be a soft consistency) Add mixed fruits. Add additional flour 'til kneading consistency. Divide into quarters. Divide each into thirds, roll and braid into four loafs. Place on lightly greased sheets. Cover with damp cloth. Let rise 'til double. Bake at 350 45 minutes or 'till golden brown. Cool. Spread straw- berry jam, or jam of choice, in creases. Drizzle confectioner's glaze over loaves. |

This recipe was made for church bake sales, and sold very quickly. It can be made without the glazed fruits, using raisins instead. A must try:-)
